【摘要】:Asthecrisisinsolidwastecontinuestogrow,MSWcompostingisincreasinglybeingconsideredasonecomponentintheoverallsolidwastemanagementstrategy.Thevolumereductionachievedbycomposting,combinedwiththeproductionofausableendproduct,isresultinginincreasingnumbersofmunicipalitiesanalyzingandselectingMSWcompostingasanalternativetoincinerationortoreducerelianceonlandfilldisposal.Thistestmethodwillhelpdeterminetheeffectofmaterialsonthecompostprocessandestablishifthematerialcanbeproperlydisposedthroughsolidwastecompostingfacilities.5Thistestmethodattemptstoprovideasimulationoftheoverallcompostprocesswhilemaintainingreproducibility.ExposingthetestmaterialwithseveralothertypesofmaterialsthataretypicallyinMSWprovidesanenvironmentwhichprovidesthekeycharacteristicsofcomposting:materialnotinasolecarbonsourceenvironmentwhichallowsco-metabolism,compostsystemisselfheating,andprovidesadirectmeasurementoforganismrespiration.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthebiodegradationpropertiesofamaterialbyreproduciblyexposingmaterialstoconditionstypicalofmunicipalsolidwaste(MSW)composting.Amaterialiscompostedundercontrolledconditionsusingasyntheticcompostmatrixanddeterminingtheacclimationtime,cumulativeoxygenuptake,cumulativecarbondioxideproduction,andpercentoftheoreticalbiodegradationovertheperiodofthetest.Thistestmethoddoesnotestablishthesuitabilityofthecompostedproductforanyuse.1.2Thevaluesstatedinbothinch-poundandSIunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
