【摘要】:Autoignition,byitsverynature,isdependentonthechemicalandphysicalpropertiesofthematerialandthemethodandapparatusemployedforitsdetermination.Theautoignitiontemperaturebyagivenmethoddoesnotnecessarilyrepresenttheminimumtemperatureatwhichagivenmaterialwillself-igniteinair.Thevolumeofthevesselusedisparticularlyimportantsincelowerautoignitiontemperatureswillbeachievedinlargervessels.(SeeAppendixX2.)Vesselmaterialcanalsobeanimportantfactor.Thetemperaturesdeterminedbythistestmethodarethoseatwhichairoxidationleadstoignition.Thesetemperaturescanbeexpectedtovarywiththetestpressureandoxygenconcentration.Thistestmethodisnotdesignedforevaluatingmaterialswhicharecapableofexothermicdecomposition.Forsuchmaterials,ignitionisdependentuponthethermalandkineticpropertiesofthedecomposition,themassofthesample,andtheheattransfercharacteristicsofthesystem.Thistestmethodcanbeemployedforsolidchemicalswhichmeltandvaporizeorwhichreadilysublimeatthetesttemperature.Nocondensedphase,liquidorsolid,shouldbepresentwhenignitionoccurs.Thistestmethodisnotdesignedtomeasuretheautoignitiontemperatureofmaterialswhicharesolidsorliquidsatthetesttemperature(forexample,wood,paper,cotton,plastics,andhigh-boilingpointchemicals).Suchmaterialswillthermallydegradeintheflaskandtheaccumulateddegradationproductsmayignite.Thistestmethodwasdevelopedprimarilyforliquidchemicalsbuthasbeenemployedtotestreadilyvaporizedsolids.Responsibilityforextensionofthismethodtosolidsofunknownthermalstability,boilingpoint,ordegradationcharacteristicsrestswiththeoperator.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofhot-andcool-flameautoignitiontemperaturesofaliquidchemicalinairatatmosphericpressureinauniformlyheatedvessel.Note18212;Withincertainlimitations,thistestmethodcanalsobeusedtodeterminetheautoignitiontemperatureofsolidchemicalswhichreadilymeltandvaporizeattemperaturesbelowthetesttemperature.1.2Thisstandardshouldbeusedtomeasureanddescribethepropertiesofmaterials,products,orassembliesinresponsetoheatandflameundercontrolledlaboratoryconditionsandshouldnotbeusedtodescribeorappraisethefirehazardorfireriskofmaterials,products,orassembliesunderactualfireconditions.However,resultsofthistestmaybeusedaselementsofafireriskassessmentwhichtakesintoaccountallofthefactorswhicharepertinenttoanassessmentofthefirehazardofaparticularenduse.
